Fading Flowers or the Living Word

The grass withers, the flowers fades…

Fading flowers… that might describe the Valentine bouquet you received a couple of weeks ago, or it maybe better described as falling or dead flowers.  Flowers alive with beautiful blooms and fading, drying up and thrown away.  This we understand but…the living word what is that?

…you have been born again not of seed which is perishable but impershable, that is , through the living and enduring word of God.  For, “All flesh is like grass, and all its glory like the flower of grass.  The grass withers, and the flower falls off, but the word of the LORD endures forever.” And this is the word which was preached to you….  Therefore, putting aside all malice and all deceit and hypocrisy and envy and all slander, like newborn babies, long for the pure milk of the word, so that by it you may grow in respect to salvation, if you have tasted the kindness of the Lord.  1 Peter 1:23-2:3

God’s word is living and enduring.  We should long for it as our daily food.

But that is not all the bible has to say about this “living” word.

For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.  Hebrews 4:12

…you received the word of God which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men, but for what it really is, the word of God, which also performs its work in you who believe. 1 Thessalonians 2:13

So will My word be which goes forth from My mouth; It will not return to Me empty, Without accomplishing what I desire, And without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it.  Isaiah 55:11

God’s word is living, active, sharp, piercing, able to judge, performs work, accomplishing what God desires.

WOW!  And some people think it is just an old book (a really old book!)

The grass withers, the flowers fades, but the word of our God will stand forever.  Isaiah 40:8
