It was a beautiful cool morning as we sat at the top of Mount Carmel. As I listened to David Lawson teach, I couldn’t help but picture the events that happened here more then 2500 years ago.
In 1 Kings 18, we learn of the gathering Elijah has requested with King Ahab, the prophets of Baal and Asherah, and all Israel.
Elijah came near to all the people and said, “How long with you hesitate between two opinions? If the LORD is God, follow Him; but if Baal, follow him.” 1 Kings 18:21a
I couldn’t help but thinking of my life, do I hesitate to follow God? Are there times I when I make excuses for not doing what I know God wants me to do? Do I fail to worship and serve Him? Unfortunately the answer too often is yes.
The reality though is that anything I follow besides God is as worthless as the god of Baal. His prophets called, danced and even cut them selves trying to get his attention but it made no difference. There was no answer.
My prayer is that I would see the miracle of God’s power at work and worship Him, as Israel did when the fire of the Lord fell.
“The Lord, He is God; The Lord, He is God.” 1 Kings 18:39
