Let No One Deceive You

See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception, according to the tradition of men, according to the elementary principles of the world, rather than according to Christ.        Colossians 2:8

Our world is full of talk…opinions and advice is free flowing.  How can we know what to believe?  How can we not be taken captive by the words of the world, when they sound so good?

Would it help if we…

  • Continue in the faith, firmly established and steadfast, and not move away from the hope of the gospel… Col 1:23
  • Keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Col. 3:1
  • Let the word of Christ richly dwell within us, with all wisdom… Col 3:16
  • Pray…to be filled with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so that we will walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, to please Him in all respects… Col 1:9-10

Remember…

For since in the wisdom of God the world through it wisdom did not come to know God, God was well-pleased through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe.  1 Corinthians 1:21

Whatever

Whatever…it started out as a catchy conference title, that tied in with the chosen theme. But it became the catch word of the day…
I will do whatever
Whatever you say…
Are you ready for God’s whatever?

All these whatevers made me start to think…maybe this should be an on going theme. Have you ever heard of One Word? As one blogger writes,
“One Word, I thought that sounded like a better idea than resolutions. One Word to focus on throughout the year. One Word as a theme, a guide. One prayerfully considered word to listen for, to pay attention to.”

I had never thought about this One Word focus, but whatever

whatever, I do I will do it all for God’s glory. (1 Corinthians 10:31)

whatever, I do in word or deed, I will do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father. (Colossians 3:17)

whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellance and if anythings worthy of praise, I will dwell on these things. (Philippians 4:8)

This year I will focus my whatevers on bringing honor and glory to God.
